About Us
Thank you for visiting our little home on the web.
It all started with Oscar. Oscar was and is our very first Dachshund. We got him because I (Jackie) wanted a lap dog. Its funny looking back because on my list of possible breeds a Dachshund was the last on my list of 5. We scanned the ads (online and off) and could not find a single one of the other breeds we could afford so we called the 2 Dachshund ads in the paper we could afford. The first ad wound up not being what we were looking for so we called the second ad. I told my husband (Ryan) on the way there that I did not want a red dachshund, I preferred a long hair, and I definitely did not want a boy. This is who we got:
Oscar is obviously a red smooth male. He was not my picture of my ideal dog but he definitely is a perfect match for me. The whole litter were reds (8 in total)but there were only 2 boys in the litter. I was so busy checking out the girls of the litter that I didnt even notice the little boy puppy bouncing up and down at my foot. I finally did see that little boy and I picked him up. It was all downhill from there. I told his breeder that I *had* to have him. Her smile faded and her eyes teared up. I immediately said *Oh... I can pick a different one!!!* And she said no that it was ok and that he was her favorite and if she was going to keep any of them he would have been the one. We got him and away we went. I didnt necessarily pick Oscar from the beginning but he definitely picked me.
Within 2 days of being home I had a ball chasing dog. He loves to chase balls and will chase one for hours on end. He loves these little squeaky soccer balls and we find them all over in the house. They are always in our bed too.
Anyway, that is our story on how we fell in love with the Dachshund breed. On a side note, my favorites are the boys. The girls are nice but I love the boys :)
We have 5 children, 5 boys in fact. They keep us busy but are the joys of our lives. Our children love all animals. They love having puppies around to love and cuddle with. With 5 boys there is always someone handy to throw a ball or rub a tummy.
This is Jay Jay. Jay Jay is a red dilute with blueing. He was purchased at 8 weeks old to be a stud for us. However, he only has one descended testicle and also has a lung defect. Needless to say, I have had a bad experience with his breeder but Jay Jay is a great little guy anyway. So, Jay Jay will have a forever home here with us as a pet. Isnt he darling?!?!?
As you can see, we absolutely love Dachshunds. We decided to concentrate solely on AKC Mini Dachshunds and began our research. Only after a year of research, note taking, asking questions, researching lines and possible defects did we feel we were ready to begin our breeding program. We had our first litter of puppies the end of August 2006 and are well on our way now. We are still working on improving and expanding our lines.
Our mothers all whelp in the house and are assisted if they need it. Sometimes we have some doozy deliveries and we are glad we're there. Other times it goes smooth as can be. Our puppies stay in the house until they find their new homes. We do have a smaller outdoor playpen that they go out to potty and play in throughout the day starting at 6 weeks old. Most of our puppies are already papertrained or well on their way by the time they are ready to go.
Our adult dogs are all kenneled at night in our basement where we have heat and air, they have free roam in our fenced yard each day. I like to call it *General Population*. As long as noone is in heat or being bred then all of the adults play in the fence all day and into the evening. In the pen they have a shelter, sun shade, swimming pool, lots of toys and the neatest of all is a stump. In 2005 a tornado came through where we live (we didnt live in the house at the time) and tore off the roof to the house and tore down some of the outbuildings. It also destroyed 2 of the big trees in the yard. One of them was cut down about 3 feet off the ground and all was left was stump. When the tornado tore through it uprooted it slightly so the stump is a bit crooked. This created an area on the ground where the roots were exposed. The Dachshunds went to work on it immediately and within a week had a tunnel dug completely around the stump underground. Its about 2 feet under the ground and is at least a 10 foot circle. They will run and chase each other around the yard and under the stump and back out. I have seen 12 dogs in there at the same time. I know Dachshunds were bred to be underground dogs and they definitely love it under there. The picture on my homepage is Tanner and Hunnie laying on the stump. They also play king of the hill up there too. We almost didnt fence that area in because I was worried about the safety of the stump but I am glad we did it afterall.
If a female is in heat then she and her beau (if being bred that cycle) will be in a smaller pen under a shade tree for the duration. It gets tricky if we have more than 1 female in heat at the same time but we manage that too.
We have grand plans on how we want our kennel done and what we want to do next but for now this is how its done and it works good for us.
Back to customer service, our main way of selling is word of mouth. We strive to have happy customers. We do not want even one single unhappy customer and will work diligently to resolve any issues if something should arise.
